The parish was founded in the late 1800s; its English Gothic church was built 1897-1911 (it took 14 years because it was built as funds were raised). It has great architecture and art; prominent twin towers, beautiful stained glass windows and impressive woodwork. …”

“ … St. Paul’s Catholic Church—which has survived earthquakes, the filming of a Hollywood movie, and major renovations, including repair of its soaring twin spires—celebrates its centennial this month. And that is cause for a big gathering at the Noe Valley landmark at Church and Valley streets. Archbishop George Niederauer, California’s highest-ranking prelate, will offer a mass of Thanksgiving at the stately granite church on May 29. …”

In 1992, a local San Francisco church was transformed to look like it was part of a run-down neighborhood for a Hollywood production that would become one of the most financially successful comedies during the 1990s.
The film? Sister Act. The house of worship? St. Paul's Catholic Church in Noe Valley …”
